The idea behind Translations HQ is very simple - TO PROVIDE A POINT OF ENTRY AND SUPPORT FOR FREELANCE TRANSLATORS.

It's in its early stages at the moment but hopefully will develop into a useful resource for the Translation Community at large.

TRANSLATION SERVICES

In September 2009 after more than 20 years in English Language Teaching and a myriad of translation projects, I decided to move into Full-Time Translation providing document translation and web localization services from Catalan into English and Spanish into English.

Please use the form on the CONTACT US page to get a quote for your translation project.

TRANSLATORS' COMMUNITY

Translations HQ is just getting started, so I'm spending a lot of time learning how to use the Joomla website software and writing translation-related articles

At the time of writing, the area of the site that I'm happiest with is the Link Directory for Translation Websites, which I'm using very much like a notebook where I add links to websites with useful information or resources.

If you're a freelance translator or translation agency, feel free to add a link to your own website. All sites are accepted manually, so I'll definitely check you out.

I've recently set up a Translator's Forum, where you can introduce yourself, make suggestions and ask questions.

I have plans to include a Jobs Board but although the links are available, it still requires some configuring before it will work properly and is oriented towards translation rather than jobs in general.

I am currently creating Translation Training articles and a Translators' Forum should be up and running within the next few days (paid translation projects permitting).

Once all the free content has been created, the Members' Area will come into its own - I expect to be uploading Translation Memories and Glossaries (probably in SDL MultiTerm format) from early March.

ABOUT ME

Following a long career in English Language Teaching, which included stints at the British Council in Barcelona and finished at the Servei de Llengües of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, but I have now decided to dedicate myself to full-time translation.

I've done quite a lot over the past twenty years, but as it was always an extra source of income, which I could take on if the idea appealed to me, I have never looked at translating from the business or technological point of view. Until now, my interest in translating has been from the point of view of a challenging language project, rather than as the next step in my career.

My language pairs are Spanish to English and Catalan to English and my main CAT software Trados 2009 Freelance. I have recently completed a two-month course on Computer-Aided Translation with SDL Trados with SIC SL, Barcelona. So things are obviously changing!

Given my background in reasonably high level language environments, I hope to make Translations HQ an important resource for freelance translators and also a handy way of attracting work for myself.
